President’s message

Where has our summer gone?  For that matter, when did it begin?

It is hard to believe that we have completed the spring and summer equine sessions, the first ever canoeing program session and are starting the fall equine session.  It seems like just a short time ago that we were concerned about being able to start these sessions on time.  But with a lot of hard work from Dianna Schmaus, Cheryl Liedle, Haylee Otteson, Shelby Blixt, Debra Franklin, Glenn Johnson and all of the volunteers too numerous to name, these programs not only started on time but have been very successful.  A big thank you for a job well done.

On a personal note, this will be my last message as President of EMH.  Holding this position has been an honor as well as a very rewarding experience. The generosity and kindness I have seen has renewed my faith in the goodness of people.  Numerous times in the past 2 ½ years I wondered if or where we would find the funds and the energy to continue and each time help appeared from an unexpected source.  On behalf of all of the participants that we serve and myself, a huge thanks to the Board, the staff, the volunteers and all of the community members and donors that allow Eagle Mount Helena to continue to serve people with disabilities.

Year End BBQ

We will be having a year end BBQ on September 19th-noon at the Eagle Mount arena/Farm in the Dell. In honor of all the volunteers and supporters that have made our programs so successful~Thank you!   Without your generous donation of time and energy EMH would not be where it is today.
To all our participants~ what joy you bring to our hearts when we see your smiles of accomplishment.  You did a tremendous  job this year!
A tent will be set up where participants and volunteers can help create a scrap book to document our 2009-2010 season of activities.  Bring your lawn chair and join us for an afternoon filled with laughter, relaxation and good food!

Silver Bells & Golden Spurs

Purt Near the best day to have a trail ride!

Our 3rd annual ride for freedom on May 16 was met with beautiful blue skies, and approximately, 32 eager riders who enjoyed a unique opportunity to enjoy a guided tour through the Historic Fort Harrison grounds. It was followed with a BBQ lunch, and riders enjoyed stories of Cowboys past with Roy Pace -Helenas’ Cowboy Poet. A huge thank you goes out to the 89th Montana Cavalry- Montana Army National Guards for their support, and generous donation of time to make this day so successful.  Join us next year for this rare opportunity to ride through Historical Fort Harrison.

Out Where the West Begins

Out where the handclasp’s a little stronger,
Out where the smile dwells a little longer,
    That’s where the West begins;
Out where the sun is a little brighter,
Where the snows that fall are a trifle whiter,
Where the bonds of home are a wee bit tighter,
    That’s where the West begins.

Out where the skies are a trifle bluer,
Out where friendship’s a little truer,
    That’s where the West begins;
Out where a fresher breeze is blowing,
Where there’s laughter in every streamlet flowing,
Where there’s more of reaping and less of sowing,
    That’s where the West begins;

Out where the world is in the making,
Where fewer hearts in despair are aching,
    That’s where the West begins;
Where there’s more of singing and less of sighing,
Where there’s more of giving and less of buying,
And a man makes friends without half trying —
    That’s where the West begins.

Shamrock Shuffle

Our 1st annual Guinness Skiing/ Race/Dash of the Leprechauns was a huge success. A big thank you goes out to the Great Divide for their continued support of Eagle Mount, and to our sponsors Marks-Miller Post Inc., PEC Inc., Payne Financial Group, MDM Supply, Howards Pizza, and Valley Hub. Our totals for the 2 day event was 427 leprechauns gathered together to raise money for a non-profit.

The Friday event of night skiing ended with the leprechaun run, and a incredible display of fireworks. Great job Kevin and Nyla Talyor and the great divide clan who are proud sponsors of our 2009 ski season.

Saturdays event started with blue skies and began with the 3K race. This route led its leprechauns to the end of the rainbow, where the leprechaun king claimed his gold. The smiles on the faces of Eagle Mount participants, while dashing to the end of the rainbow, brought even more satisfaction to all who turned out. Thank you to all for assisting Eagle Mount in providing therapeutic activities to all persons with disabilities.

Be sure to save the date for next years 2nd annual gathering of the leprechauns.

Skiing/Running of the Leprechauns

March 13 and 14 can’t be missed!  We are shooting for the most leprechauns gathered together to raise money for a non-profit organization, and will be in Guinness World Records.  There will be several ways to register for this event. The race will take you to the end of the rainbow where you will deposit your gold coins with the leprecauns -for the world count.  Don’t miss this fun event-bring your luck of the Irish to raise money which will provide therapeutic recreational opportunities for people with disabilities.
